Radicals 1-25

The Japanese Radicals are sorted in order by the number of strokes, so the easier one and two stroke radicals appear first.

Stroke order is important and learning the recommended way will benefit you in the long run. Electronic dictionaries and kanji recognition apps, which are both fantastic, recognize the kanji that you write in them by stroke order. You might as well learn the correct way the first time. Use the kanji with stroke order pages to see the order of strokes.

In this list of the first twenty-five radicals, please note that #12 'eight' has the variant form of . On some websites,  is considered a variant of #140 'grass' . If it seems more like a variant of grass to you, then reassign it. But do that before you begin learning the radicals.

Also note that #3 'dot' is very different from #4 'slash'. The 'dot' slants to the left. The 'slash' slants to the right.

For the radical #23, some websites list 亡 as the historical form and 匸 as the variant. Other sites list them in reverse order. I personally think the simplified form would more likely be the variant.

The first set of the practice pages has the radicals listed in the same order as the study sheet. The second and third sets have the radicals in mixed order.
